Hunger

Hunger, one of the worlds biggest problems that causes the lack of healthy portions needed to be active in life.  About 790 million people around the globe is affected by this unfortunate natural phenomenon has been going on. The vast majority lives in developing countries that have a population of 12.9 percent that is very malnourished.

People all around the world come to the united states to attend college. In this day and age people look at the basic college kid and say its a joke. The problem with this is that hunger isn’t a joke. The quad Magazine tells the dirty truth behind how this issue of hunger actually comes into existence bringing a sense of realization toward the cruel reality of what a college student goes through when confronted with the possibility of starvation.

“ Rising college cost and high enrollment have far outpaced the income and growth of the populace. Student loans might hide the problem, and deferment can delay it but food insecurity inevitably follows” –  The Quad Magazine

This brings me to the next part of the issue, Meal swipes. The are very expensive and hard to come by when coming from a developing country or fro the standard American home. The middle class is the new poor as they say these days.

“I’ve gone a day or two without swipes and had to ask people for meal swipes just so I can last until the next day.” -Xavier McFadden, Senior, Major Early childhood education.

This unfortunate position we put ourselves in is that hunger is a very serious issue. With the overcharging on attending these institutions including Park itself this will be nothing but inauspicious and unrealistically irrational proposition for any  positive action to actually take place. we will not be able to overcome from the current philosophy within the political perspective of taxing the people properly and morally. But having a solution comes with these flaws as well, me and a team of fellow students during this “What can students do about it” project.

We brainstormed on some Ideas that Park could utilize for these hungry students after the cafeteria closing hours proceed. Some students have long and tiresome days consisted of a full schedule especially our graduates here at park. Realistically speaking the cafe should be open 24 hours with a self service of serving packages of  quick meals.

  • Food packages for the week ( People who don’t have more than 2 swipes a day)
  • More spots on campus for affordable or free food all the time around.
  • More active with the churches that perform charity events for college students.
  • Having a more wider food menu to accommodate others that might no be able to eat the main dish of the day.
