Park introduces new Manager of Special Events
Park welcomed Rachel Jones Bonikowski as Manager of Special Events on October 9. Jones Bonikowski’s roles include organizing and executing all events on Park’s campus, specifically ones that involve the president, helping the university gain media attention, and fundraising. As the manager of special events, Jones Bonikowski will be a part of the Office of External Relations and will work closely with all university departments and external partners.
Jones Bonikowski has worked in the events industry her entire life. When she was 16 she started working as a DJ for her father’s business, Professional Sound Services. She later moved on to an event manager role.
“My father inspires me and is an amazing mentor,” said Jones Bonikowski. “His dedication and belief in me has empowered me to succeed.”
Jones Bonikowski received her Bachelor of Science degree in business/finance from Park in 2008. Being a Park alumna, Jones Bonikowski is excited to have a found an opportunity to work in her field so close to the university.
“I am honored to back at Park,” said Jones Bonikowski. “Being an alumni is something I am very proud of.”
Before Jones Bonikowski joined the Park team she was the director of events at the KCI Expo Center in Kansas City, Mo. She also worked in sales and accounts receivable with the Gown Gallery in Kansas City, Mo. and worked for Microsoft as a product adviser.
Jones Bonikowski’s biggest goal as the manager of special events is to create and execute efficient events that are well-branded in a positive manner. So far in her position, she’s assisted in planning two major diversity lectures, a trustee day and the board meeting for the Lenexa campus. As of right now, her biggest focus is to organize the upcoming commencement in December, and she hopes to hire a strong team to help do so.
Jones Bonikowski’s skill in working in the events industry has been perfected with her experience with events at her previous jobs.
“My position at KCI Expo Center I had to be organized, multitask efficient, and very detailed,” said Bonikowski. “My experience will give Park a sense of security and structure.”
Jones Bonikowski’s favorite part of working in events is the fact that no event is the same, which makes her job different every day. She also loves meeting new people and making connections.
“All of my clients were great to work with and are now friends of mine,” said Jones Bonikowski. “These relationships and accomplishments will help me daily to execute the daily task here at Park.”
