Park soccer off to rough start
With a new school year brings a new season for Park Athletics. As the fall semester gains steam the women’s soccer team looks to ignite a winning streak. While the men’s soccer team looks to rekindle a winning streak of their own.
The women’s soccer team is looking for their first win be Sep. 6 at home on Julian Field versus Friends University. They started off the season dropping games to Benedictine College (5-2 ) and Graceland University (6-2).
A rough start might be expected given the new faces on the roster. Coach Ken Hefner brought 13 new players on to the team. They are goalkeepers: sophomore Mercedes Daniels, sophomore Martina Gonzalez and junior Alyssa Gregory ; defenders: junior Siana Aumua , sophomore Haley Buckholz, freshman Cheri Hedges, junior Kerinne Murry and junior Hayley Seibel; midfielders: freshman Monica Bravo, junior Maria Carvalho, junior Alexandra Ortega and sophomore Maddy Russell; and forward sophomore Karla Montes.
As the women’s soccer team adapts to the new additions to their roster the men’s team looks to restart a winning streak of their own. Coming off a win in the first game of the season against Briar Cliff University the men’s soccer team couldn’t keep the streak alive and took a loss against Graceland University Sep. 2 in Lamoni, Iowa. The team’s next chance to restart their streak will be Sep. 6 at home versus Friends University on Julian Field and on Sep. 9 against University of St. Mary in Leavenworth, Kan.
Both men’s and women’s soccer teams will also play Sept. 9 against University of St. Mary in Leavenworth, Kan.
