Men’s basketball play in championship tourney
After having their five-game win streak snapped in an overtime loss by Williams Woods University, the Park University men’s basketball team responded in their game with Benedictine-Springfield Feb. 26 in the Beckon Sports Center.
The men won the game 95-73, with a second half surge that broke the game open. The Pirates were led by Mylin Jordan, who scored 15 of his game high 26 points in the second half.
Benedictine led for a majority of the first half, going up by as much as seven. The Pirates later made an 11-4 run that gave them a 44-39 lead at halftime.
Park broke the game open with a 9-0 run in the second half eventually gaining a double-digit lead that lasted to the final buzzer.
Three other Pirates who contributed well were forward Manyawu Freddie who had 14 points with 9 rebounds, Guard Marcus Johnson who had 15 points with three three-pointers; and Center John Kotsanos had 18 points with 6 rebounds.
This win moves the Pirates record to 14-11 and locks them into the No. 5 seed in the AMC Men’s Basketball Championship.
The championship tournament started for the Pirates March 3, where they faced St Louis College of Pharmacy. The Pirates won both match ups against Pharmacy this season which both ended in blowouts.
