Royals break drought, fan deserve to celebrate
For the past two years, the Kansas City Chiefs have been doing great. Sporting KC is the defending World Champion in soccer.
The last time the Royals made the playoffs was 1985, in which they won the World Series in seven games against the St. Louis Cardinals.
From 1986-2013 the Royals have not seen a playoff berth – until now.
The Royals had a wildcard game against the Oakland A’s over a week ago, which was a sudden death game.
It took one game to determine who makes it to the playoffs. After 12 innings the Royals claimed victory. The score was 9-8. The excitement of the fans would have made you believe the Royals had just won the World Series again.
Their next test was against the Los Angeles Angels. The Royals started this series on the road and were the first to win three consecutive games.
During game one of the series, hird Baseman Mike Moustakas hit a home run in the top of the 11th inning giving them a one-game lead. The final score was 3-2.
In game two, the Royals went into extra innings. First Baseman Eric Hosmer hit a two-run home run in the 11th inning helping them steal game two, 4-1.
With momentum already on their side only needing one game to advance to the next round, the Kansas City Royals didn’t let up in game three. With the home crowd behind them, this game didn’t need extra innings.
An 8-3 win put Kansas City baseball back on the map for playoff victories.
Nearly 30 years of no baseball in October and the drought is over.
Next on the list is the Baltimore Orioles Oct. 10. A series win against them will advance the Royals to the World Series – the first time since 1985.
Personally, I think it’s a good thing that the Royals are experiencing success this year. The fans have been so loyal through all of the losing seasons and it’s only right. I’ve been living in Kansas City for five years and this is a memory I will never forget.
The last time they made it to the World Series, the Royals faced the St. Louis Cardinals, which is my favorite team.
If this match-up could happen again this year that would be great.
The metro area is going crazy with both the Cardinals and Royals winning. This is a good year for Missouri.
To be a winning organization now, despite losing for nearly 30 years, would mean so much more to those who have stuck around through the hard times.
