Top 10 sports around the world may surprise American enthusiasts
Everyone has their favorite sport. The sport they believe is the best. Better than any of the other ones.
Everyone has a favorite player in whatever sport they love the most. There’s always a scenario when a name is said that another person may not even recognize as important.
That’s the love of sports. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks isn’t fun or good. It’s all about the fans for that sport.
After doing research, my plan was to find the top 10 sports in the world – not just America. Sporteology.com compiled the statistics for this list and has served as my inspiration.
According to Sporteology.com, the most popular of this list doesn’t just mean most watched. It varies from most watched, most played and most revenue-generating. I’ll be starting from least to greatest.
These results may surprise many Americans – but it’s worth expanding our horizons to see what the buzz around the world is all about.
At No.10 is golf, which has more than 390 million fans in the United States, Europe and Canada. Golf is more of a patient type of game.

When you think golf the top two most popular names are Tiger Woods and Jack Nicolson. The less hits it takes you the higher your score is.
Coming in at No.9 is rugby, which has 390 to 410 million fans mainly outside of the U.S. Rugby is mainly played in France. This game is very close to American football.

You can either play one-on-one or two-on-two. It’s exactly like ping pong but the table is smaller and it’s more intense.

A tall net separates six players on each side. The goal is to knock the ball on the opposite side of the net and make it hit the ground inside the designated boundary lines.
Now, we are down to the top five. No.5 is tennis. There are around one billion fans within Europe, Asia and America.
You can either play singles or doubles. It is played with a bouncy tennis ball and a shorter net separates the players from each other.
A tennis rack is used to swipe the ball inside the boundaries on the other side. Names like Roger Federer and Serena Williams come to mind.

No.1 on the list of most popular sports in the world is – as you may have expected – soccer.
These fans are estimated at about 3.3 to 3.5 billion strong throughout Europe, Africa, Asia and America.
It is played by 250 million players in over 200 countries, making it the world’s most popular sport.
That is an unimaginable number. These players control the ball with their feet trying to score by kicking the ball in the net. The only player that can use their hands is the Goalie.
This is interesting because there are a couple sports I wasn’t fully aware of and it’s cool to know now.
I figured that soccer would be the most popular but I had no idea how so many popular American sports aren’t even near the top of the list.
I guess we should find out more about what the rest of the world already seems to know.
