The Park University’ Women’s Basketball team fell to Mid-America Nazarene 68-86 on Nov. 19 but rebounded with a win two days later against Peru State.
There was not much time to think about the loss against Mid-America, which dropped the team’s record to 1-3, with just one day separating their next game. The Pirate’s Harvester game for the canned good rush drive was Nov. 21, at Breckon Sports Center. Hosting Peru State, who were 1-3 also, the Pirates expected a challenge with two games in three days.
The Pirates led most of the game by double digits but weren’t able to keep it going into half-time with only a one point lead.
The Bobcats of Peru State stayed aggressive when they were down. The game tied up at 38 at the 14:58 mark of the second half by a three pointer from Shelbie Hess of Peru State. The difference in this game was the defense displayed by the Pirates.
They were ferocious and active creating 27 turnovers. Junior guard Channell Mackey scored a game high 24 points, adding eight assists and six steals. The Pirates won 71-60.
The Pirates traveled to Atchison, Kan., to take on Benedictine College Dec.2 and fell, 62-64.
This would have been a quality win for the Pirates with Benedictine being No. 12 in the nation. This game wrapped up their non-conference schedule. Conference play begins this week with two back-to-back games in Arkansas on Dec. 5 at Williams Baptist and Dec. 6 at Lyons College.
