The Park Women’s Basketball team is now 1-2 after a nail-biting game against Avila University Nov. 5. The Pirates led by as many as 20 points.
With the new foul rule that the NAIA athletics committee have implemented into the college game all over America, players defending cannot use their hands to touch the offensive player at all. With that being said, the second half of the game was dedicated to Avila shooting free-throws and potentially taking the lead over Park.
Junior guard Channell Mackey made the game winning lay-up with 28 seconds remaining giving the Pirates the victory with a score of 51-50.
The Pirates next game is at 7 p.m.Monday, Dec. 2, at Benedictine College.
From Nov.19-21, Park University also hosted its annual Harvesters Community Food Network canned food drive during Men’s and Women’s basketball games to benefit needy families in the Kansas City area.
