This past week, the Park University Men’s Soccer team closed out their regular season at home with wins over Benedictine University at Springfield and Mid-Continent University.
The men had a rocky start in the first half of the season but this past month they’ve managed to turn the season around finishing first place in the Conference with a 10-5 overall record and a 8-2 record in the American Midwest Conference.
The team is looking to keep their luck going as they head into the conference tournament.
“It’s been unbelievable,” said Carlos Trombini Filho, senior midfielder. “We’ve had a really bad start but we believe in the team. We just have to keep working hard because we are not done yet and we have a dream to go to nationals.”
The team trounced Benedictine-Springfield 4-0. With that win, the team secured home-field advantage for the tournament. Following that win, the Pirates won their regular season finale against Mid-Continent, 2-1 while honoring the senior with Senior Night. The win against Mid-Continent got the team the AMC regular season title for the first time since 2010.
The team is plans on using what worked for them in the regular season while continuing to improve as they go into the playoffs.
“You always want to improve every game, there’s always something to work on,” said Efrem Shimlis, head coach. “The team wants to work hard and go further but the playoffs are different because there’s no next game but there’s a lot that we need to work on.”
The team will have a bye round before returning to Julian Field for the AMC Tournament Semifinals on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
