The Park University Women’s Volleyball team went into the Dig Pink match with a commendable record of 21-2. Mid-Continent on the other hand, entered the match with a respectable record of 10-5.
The Pirates breezed through the first set by racking up kills by Junior Wanessa Siquiera, Senior Lauren Purdy and Senior Pamela Lima. Also adding to the kill tally for Park was Melissa Honn, senior defensive specialist.
Park’s front-line seemed an impenetrable fortress with the amount of blocks the Pirates completed. Adding to Park’s predominance was the number of errors the Cougar’s tallied.
Set two was a different story entirely. After an early time-out call by the Cougar’s Head Coach Lindsey Davis, the Cougar’s appeared to be rejuvenated. Mid-Continent’s perseverance elicited a tie at 16-16.
However, this tie would not last. With a score of 20-17 in the Pirate’s favor, the game literally sprang to life with the women’s soccer team jumping and cheering in unison for the volleyball team.
With game-point on the line for the Pirates, fans all rose to their feet imploring the Pirates to finish out the match mercilessly.
After a well-orchestrated volley and a colorful push by Park’s Junior Juliana Barros, Purdy closed out the match with a kill.
Set three mirrored the first set with unquestioned dominance by the Pirates. The final score of the set three was 25-13 in favor of the Pirates. Once again the match, and incidentally game was ended by another formidable kill by Purdy.
Park extended their commendable winning record to 22-2.
