Throughout the majority of October, the men’s soccer team has continued to improve its record with winning streaks.
The first winning streak began earlier in the month and continued as they took on the No. 14 ranked Hannibal-LaGrange at home before going on a three-game road trip.
Both teams went on the defense and Park managed to have more goal attempts but in the end it resulted in a scoreless first half. The scoreless game continued up until the 64th-minute when Freshman Forward Mario Erpel scored and was assisted by Senior Midfielders Carlos Trombini-Filho and Kiel Williams.
The Pirates went on score their last goal of the game by forward George Kennedy assisted by Williams and Midfielder Lucas Sousa as the team earned its third shutout win of the season.
The team began a three-game road trip against Harris-Stowe as they suffered a setback in a 0-3 shutout loss. After the setback, however, the team began another win streak with their first opponent William Baptist.
Defender Ignacio Flores Garay and Midfielder Maximiliano Albayay led the team to another 2-0 shutout win – making it the team’s fourth shutout win of the season.
The Pirate’s next stop was Columbia, Mo., to take on Columbia College. The Cougars didn’t waste any time getting the match started by scoring in the third minute of the first half. Park came back to tie the game with a goal by Garay.
The second half was a battle of defense as both teams held each other off to take the game into overtime. Overtime lasted only nine minutes as Williams scored the game-winning assisted by Kennedy.
The team will be closing out its regular season at home against Benedictine-Springfield on Saturday, Oct. 26, and Mid-Continent on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at Julian Field.
