After a rocky start to the season the men’s soccer team is back on track after a three-game winning streak.
Their winning streak began after an initial win against Missouri Baptist at Julian Field in an American Midwest Conference showdown.
The team defeated Missouri Baptist in a 6-2 win. After missing some time in the season due to an injury, Junior Forward George Kennedy stood out, leading the team in scoring with his first hat trick.
Three days later, the home stand continued when the Pirates faced No. 7 ranked Benedictine. Park started off the match with an aggressive attack, albeit an attempt to stay on the defensive, the men ended up with five fouls inside the first 28 minutes of play.
In the 29th minute, Senior Forward Carlos Trombini Filho scored during a free kick. Trombini Filho did it again as he scored the final goal of the game in the 66th minute with an assist by Senior Midfielder Kiel Williams and Junior Forward George Kennedy. Park ended up taking the match 2-0 as they took Benedictine by surprise and moved up to their third win of the season.
The team can see their season turning around as they continue the onward.
“I think this is the moment for us,” said Filho. “We believe in each other and we have a good team with skillful players. It’s a new beginning for us.”
After another home stand at Julian Field, the team continued took their winning streak with a road matchup against Lyon College. The team defeated Lyon 2-1 as they snagged their fourth win of the season.
With this winning streak comes a plan to work harder and harder to maintain the pattern of success.
“We have to continue to improve, it’s not perfect,” said Coach Efrem Shimlis. “There’s a lot of things we need to learn from the game. They’re focused, they want to learn and they know what they have to do to improve.”
The team is on the road next week, challenging Harris-Stowe, William Baptist and Columbia before heading home to finish off the season.
