After a short hiatus for improvements, the Park University Pirate Fitness Center is open once again for students to improve their bodies and minds.
Labor Hall, where the center is located, closed last semester for improvements including a new floor and cardio machines for students to use.
Park Student Government Association Vice President Kirby Apollis said the changes and solutions the Pirate Fitness Center provides are beneficial.
“What’s happening right now is that after they figured out that the (floor) sagging happened, they repaired the floor in the fitness center,” said Apollis. “And they put more cardio machines in there so you’ll see the row machines back there, treadmills, the bicycles – all those things are back.”
Currently, the free weights are still located at the Breckon Sports Center where students also can utilize, according to the (WHAT?) schedule.
“Right now Breckon will be the spot for all the weights but that’s just a temporary solution,” said Apollis. “They are looking for a more permanent space to put those weights into.”
The schedule for the Pirate Fitness Center is 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Students must also have their Park ID to enter and follow the time schedules.
Other changes included this year are new residential gyms at Copley Quad and Chesnut Hall that will be implemented later this semester. These facilities will be open around the clock for residential students. Commuters will still have the option to use the gym located in the Labor Hall.
Fitness classes will also be offered again at the Labor Hall center for all students including kickboxing at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays; Yoga at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays; Zumba at 7 p.m. on Mondays; Forge at 7 p.m. on Thursdays; and Boot Camp at noon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
