Navigating campus shouldn’t be a lost cause
This is not the end of the world, there are far worse things to complain about, but when I pay about $1,300 a month, I expect a lot.
At Park University, I’ve been lost too many times to count. Walking around campus with a blank look on my face, searching for help even though I know it’s not in my nature to ask for it. If only there was something that was invented to help point me in the right direction.
I’m into my senior year, and I still have no idea where the oh so scrumptious cafeteria is. How is this possible? Well, being a transfer student, I missed out on the tour around campus; I’m not sure I was even offered one. I’ve turned to friends for pointing me around, and the only source of help is a paper map with a sketch of the school. The other day I just wondered upon a touchscreen device in the underground, but how do I use it? No idea. When did it get here? No clue. Park is lacking in the basic sign department.
When I got my first semester planned out, I headed to campus for a run through to find my classes. I transferred from JCCC where each building was labeled with the abbreviation that was on the class list. There, it was a walk in the park. JCCC even had campus helpers, who stood in each building pointing students in the right direction. Now, I am not saying Park sucks; I would just like some help.
If each building was labeled with the abbreviation that appears on the online map or on the class schedule, I would be more than pleased.
Most of my classes are in Copley and for my first year, I had no idea that there were dorms also labeled Copley. Try finding your classes when there are two buildings that, online, are called Copley. Sounds stupid I’m sure, but I can’t be the only one. Maybe this is only a transfer student problem. My advice? Don’t transfer.
Obviously, I still found my way around campus. I made it to my classes and used the online map as a lifeline. The thing is, I work retail. I work part-time making $11.30 an hour, did I mention I have no loans? Paying out of pocket $1,300 a month and having to deal with no signs, gets under my skin.
I’m not asking for much. I’m not asking for the buildings to be repaired or for there to be more parking. I’m not complaining about the lack of communication with a certain department. All I ask is for a few signs to be added to help future students to find their way around
