A Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies will be my degree and I would like to tell you how glad I am to be working within it.
We have been reading The Oxford Handbook of Interdisciplinary.

Interdisciplinary seeks to resolve issues by using more than one discipline. It is a relatively new way of thinking and academic learning that can address larger problems with a philosophical view.
Generally, in philosophy, there are no wrong answers, so more avenues are explored and with the ideals of Interdisciplinary (ID), the possibilities to accrue new answers to world problems are endless.

Criminology, for instance is interdisciplinary because it was grew out of the disciplines political science, geography, sociology, biology and psychology.

Peace Journalism combines the two disciplines of Conflict Studies and Journalism, which then has its unique own approach to solve issues such as inflammation of mass communication.

ID simply gives us more solutions because of the combination of knowledge from different disciplines. When two or more disciplines are combined, there are naturally going to be more solutions to the problems because there are more variables in the equation.

ID brings together ideas, questions, concerns, theories and tools from one or more disciplines. Interdisciplinarians will use ID to confront problems that a singular discipline may not be able to.

It is believed that using the resources of several disciplines will create insight. ID possesses the respect that each discipline is shifting and views are changing.

As a personal trainer, I believe in writing programs using several different styles of training for the best success. ID is very much similar. It takes the best ideas from each discipline and takes a new, more rounded approach to situations. It’s kind of like cross training across academic disciplines.

There is a whole new future to what ID will have to offer. The integration of disciplines, scholars and beliefs will be beneficial to world crisis. Students that study ID will learn to speak across different disciplines and use them together.

It’s a complex study that is unfolding more and more every day as more and more knowledge is created through the minds of those mixing and integrating disciplines.

It’s a great avenue for those who would like to take an active role in our world from a very global perspective.
