Providing services to students in higher education is crucial for success and new Park University employee LaTasha Green is an important link in that journey.
Green is the new assistant director for Academic Services and Disability Services and a StepUP program mentor. In her role, Green provides accommodations for students with disabilities and academic services to all students. She began work at Park on Nov. 4.
“I love my job because it is my element,” Green said.
Park serves about 100 students with special needs, she said. Although Green has been assistant director for just over a month, she began encouraging studentsto succeed in theiracademicjourney.
“I empower all of my students to be a go-getter,”she said.
For students to succeed, she said it requires them to engage in reading, writing and math. Moreover, she said she believes study can lead tosuccess. This inspires her to provide accommodations to students with disabilities, she said.
“If they have their documentation of disability, the state and law requires accommodation,” Green said.
Green previously worked at Missouri State University for four years before she came to Park University.
Green has earned two masters degrees from Ball State University in 2008, and another from Missouri State University in 2012.
“I have master degree in students’ affairs administration and counseling,” Green said.
According to Green, it is imperative for students to study in order to overcome academic challenges.
As a StepUP mentor, Green also helps students engage in social activities, test preparation, organization and tutoring.
“All these services are free of charge,” Green said.
The StepUP program isdesigned to encourage studentsto succeed in an academic world.
“What I do I provide social and support networking to students who want to achieve academic goals,” she said.
Green said she believes the services her department provides are gateways to success.
