The Department of Military and Veteran Student Services created by Park University will host a variety of events open to the community in honor of Veterans Day next week.
The Park Warrior Center provides resources and important information for those who are in the service and also veterans who are transitioning out of the military.
These activities begin on Tuesday, Nov. 12, and will continue through Thursday, Nov. 14. The Veterans Day activities will begin at noon Tuesday, Nov. 12 with the Wounded Warrior Patriot 5k/10k run at the English Landing Park in Parkville. Registration is $15 which includes a T-shirt. Everyone interested can register at the Park Warrior Center in Thompson Commons on Park’s campus or sign up the day of the affair.
Volunteers will read off the names of those killed in action during Operation Enduring Freedom Wednesday, Nov. 13. The reading will be held from 9 a.m. until noon at the flagpole directly in front of Thompson Commons on campus.
Also on this day, a showing of the movie “Olympus Has Fallen” will begin at 7 p.m. in the Barbara and Jenkins David Theater inside the Alumni Hall on Park’s campus. Admission is free to everyone and open to the public.
The final event, that will be held Thursday, Nov. 14, is the Veteran Resource Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Thompson Commons.
Marcus Eggum, freshman journalism major, said he has a great deal of respect for the veterans worldwide.
“Veterans have my upmost respect for what they’ve done for me,” he said. “(Veterans) sometimes don’t get the respect they deserve. When you see a veteran you should shake their hand or greet them in any way because we have no idea what they went through to sacrifice their lives for so many people they don’t know personally.”
