The Communication Connection club, a club involving communication majors, minors and interested students, will be sponsoring a Speaker’s Showcase at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the McCoy Meetin’ House.
Each public speaking class this semester will nominate two students to participate in the competition. The students that are nominated will give speeches in front of a group of judges that will look for delivery, structure, cited sources and the use of their sources.
Cash prizes will be given out with the winner will receive $50 and the speakers that come in second and third will receive $20.
Lora Cohn, associate professor of communication arts, explains the best way to get better in public speaking.
“Practice the more you do the more you’ll get better,” she said.
Cohn also mentioned that public speaking will help give an individual confidence.
The showcase is open to the public and students are encouraged to attend.
