The City of Parkville is working on its Master Plan and is eagerly seeking feedback from citizens and other community members – like Park University students.
“I highly encourage anyone associated with the Parkville community to check out letstalkparkville.com, parkvillemo.gov, or even our Facebook page for information on our Master Plan, and of course to offer any feedback,” said City Administrator Laura Palmer.
The Master Plan will outline any changes at the English Landing Park as well as the downtown business district.
“The Downtown Parkville Master Plan is a way to liven up the city and make it enjoyable for current or future residents, business owners, students, visitors and a place that everybody can enjoy and look forward to,” said Amanda Mille, junior marketing major.
The Master Plan is something that Parkville has been working on for quite some time and is constantly being reviewed and revised.
“The planning process is being put together by many people (and) much of the help is coming from the community,” said Miller. “We have had several forums, charettes, discussions, etc. open to the public. In addition, LetsTalkParkville.com has been useful in letting people share their ideas anonymously.”
Young adults surrounding the Parkville area have a few ideas of their own as to how they would like to see the place that they call home expand.
“I think it is very unattractive to young adults and has a very boring small town feel to it,” said Parkville consumer Dan Kiser. “It is mostly land with a small population, mostly small housing, and very few commercial options. I would like to see somewhat upscale apartments and duplexes that young professionals could afford. Definitely some bars and other after hour’s establishments, a gym, and of course more restaurants. In addition, I’d like to see a Target or something in means of convenient shopping closer to me. There is absolutely nothing like that in the area. You have to drive out to the Zona area for almost everything I listed.”
Parkville is not only looking to residents for feedback on their Master Plan but is also looking to neighboring areas. With Park being a main vein in the city, the opinion of students can be influential to the plan.
“Park students should be involved with the Downtown Master Plan,” said Miller. “They are part of the community, whether they are a resident of Parkville or not. If they are going to be in the city that often, why not enjoy it?”
