While the government shut down may have delayed military student’s funds, it will not delay their studies thanks to Park University’s new Fall II term.
The new fall term, that will run Nov. 11, 2013, thru Jan. 12, 2014, was recently added to assist students impacted by the recent federal shutdown. Students of all types are taking advantage of continuing their education without taking a break in enrollment.
“I am a military student, and this shut down has forced me to delay my pursuit of higher education,” said Jeremiah Hays junior in criminal justice and computer science. “I was initially going to have to take this semester off, however thanks to this alternative semester I will get to stay on track.”
Multiple departments have been hard at work to smoothly roll out the new term. Robin Burger, enrollment counselor at Park, explained the efforts the university has put on this issue.
“Our IT and communications departments worked very hard and did an amazing job in getting the information regarding the new term on our website and they also did a great job informing our students of this fall II alternate option,” he said. “Our online operations team was able to get the schedule in place with only a few days’ notice. Our advising, student accounts, and financial aid teams are working to answer student’s questions concerning registration and payment for the alternate term.”
Enrollment services are available to answer any questions that student’s may have in regards to the new term.
“I would like students to know that if they wish to enroll in the Fall II alternate term,” said Burger. “Please contact our office at [email protected] or call 877-505-1059 and we will be happy to discuss any questions they may have. The overwhelming response of students has been very positive and students are excited to have the opportunity to take classes in this alternate term.”
While taking courses over a Holiday break may not be ideal, students will have a break the week of Dec. 22 through Dec. 29. Just another way that Park is trying to accommodate for students’ participating in the Fall II term.
“Obviously going to school over the holidays is not the ideal situation,” said Hays. “However I see this as Park attempting to facilitate its military students, and the reason we were initially unable to take classes was not by any means Park’s fault. It’s a pretty awesome feeling to know that you go to school at a university that truly cares about and is willing to facilitate the needs of its student body.”
