A Night in Monte Carlo
The final major dance Park University’s student activities board sponsors is the Spring Formal and this year’s theme was a night in Monte Carlo.
When you think of Monte Carlo you probably think of casinos, gambling and flashy outfits and at this year’s spring formal that is exactly what you got. Students showed up in their best dresses and suits as well as casual wear that would ensure that they were comfortable while the danced the night away.
PSAB made sure everyone in attendance got $5000 in poker chips to spend gambling at the many casino tables they had set up inside The Black on Burlington on April 7. The chips were used to buy raffle tickets for gift cards, headphones and other prizes. Each raffle ticket cost $1000 and you could either take your $5000 and gamble with it at any of the casino tables or you could buy five raffle tickets right after you walked in the door.
The casino tables played host to many games, such as, blackjack, roulette, poker, and others.
“I really enjoyed the atmosphere and it was neat how you got to gamble. There was a risk and reward to the experience. It really added some pizazz to the night,” said Dakota Martin, systems engineer at Cerner.
Alongside the tables there was DJ to play requests and keep people on the dance floor for the entire evening. Many students were excited to go to the spring formal.
“I didn’t go to the homecoming dance so I was actually really excited for the spring formal. I got there and it was more than I expected. I didn’t quite expect there to be so many extra activities and I really had a lot of fun,” said Laurel Crouse, freshman graphic design student.
At the end of the night students went home exhausted from dancing all night, but everyone had a smile on their face after a great night of fun and entertainment provided by PSAB and The Black on Burlington.
