If you are looking for a club at Park University to get involved in and you like gaming, role-playing and creative thinking – then the Guild is just the club for you.
The Guild is a gaming club where there are role- playing games but the club isn’t just limited to this type of game. They also play chess and video games.
They officially meet at 5:30 p.m. Fridays, however, they also set up other times to meet if they want to play Call of Duty at Copley Quad.
The official game of The Guild is Path Finder but there is also a game called Changeling Miami where humans become monsters like a vampires and werewolves.
When it comes to role-playing, players use creative thinking to get into character.
“When we role play we are trying to make the person realistic to who the character is,” said Licia Crawford, the advisor and acting scribe to The Guild.
Crawford enjoys the game tic-tack-toe, which most people have played and other favorite games that you may have not heard about.
The game Quidcler is similar to scrabble and gin. The object of the game is to spell words with the cards you have and to use all of them.
Crawford said she also enjoys Pass the Pigs. In the game, players take two plastic pigs and you throw them on the table and depending on where the pigs land that is how many points that someone will get.
If a pig gets out, players will lose all of their points, but if you feel like your luck has ran out you say pass the pigs and you get to keep all the points you gathered in the game.
Originated from Africa, the game Mancala has the same kind of purpose as checkers or Chinese checkers. Before the game starts you have to decide what rules you are going to play with and the strategy depends on the rules you play with. You have to get your stones into a particular place and you can move them around so they can avoid capture.
Crawford just enjoys playing games and having a good time.
“It’s a lot of fun,” said Crawford.
Brian Geran, who is a biology major, joined The Guild this semester. Geran said he enjoys playing Dungeons and Dragons because of the imagination level the game has.
“It allows a creative atmosphere and easier to interact in a creative way,” he said.
When Geran isn’t playing Dungeons and Dragons, he enjoys playing World of Warcraft.
Geran said he sees the club as a way to network and meet new people on campus and that everyone should join The Guild.
“It’s an easy way to network on campus and meet new people and to have a good time,” he said.
