After months of hard work – an interior design team is about to see their dream dress become a reality.
The Park University Color+Couture team will show their carpet dress project at a special fashion show this weekend.
Color + Couture is a fundraising event that supports the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), specifically the Mid America Chapter. This event is focused around a fashion show where teams from schools, local design firms and industry professionals participate.
The Park University group has been working hard on this project and even over fall break they kept on going.
Fall Break, for most means sleeping in, working and catching up on all the relaxing that has been missed out on because of schoolwork.
For the Color+Couture group, fall break means getting work done on their carpet dress. A week where schoolwork is not top on the list allows more time to do something fun – like making a runway dress.
Going in to break, the group has finalized their concept, sent off their description that will be read while their model walks and they have submitted their hair and make-up ideas.
They have already cut out the pattern pieces for the base dress – which is made out of a carpet backing material.
“We’ve mutilated and manipulated the carpeting materials in a couple different ways to create the color, texture and pattern we want to bring our vision to reality,” said Brandi Wooten, team leader.
Along with making the dress, the group also gets to select the music that will be played as their model walks down the runway. This will allow them another opportunity to create the feel they want.
This year’s fashion show will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at Starlight Theatre.
During this time there will be a cocktail hour and appetizers, as well as a meet and greet afterwards with the models and teams.
