Color + Couture is quickly approaching and all students involved are feeling the pressure. The group has recently chosen their final design for their dress and is starting to get their garment put together.
Color + Couture is a fundraising event that supports the Mid-America Chapter of the International Interior Design Association. This event is focused around a fashion show where teams from schools, local design firms and industry professionals participate.
The teams consist of five people, four from the organization and one from their sponsor. The sponsors are different suppliers around the area that work with tile, carpet, fabric and other materials.
The sponsor is responsible for supplying their respective team with the material needed to make their garment. Each garment is made up of 70 percent of the material from the sponsor and 30 percent of whatever else is needed in order to complete the design.
The garment will then be modeled on the runway by one of the team members and the model will have their hair and makeup done by professionals who volunteer to help.
Brandi Wooten, team leader, said the project is well underway.
“We are starting with a pattern we purchased and then making several alterations but we needed something to start off of to get the sewing correct so it fits well on our model,” Whooten said.
Along with starting the process of putting the dress together, the group finalized their twenty-word description that will be read while the model is walking down the runway.
Wooten and the rest of the group submitted their hair and makeup ideas on Oct 4, so they will be able to plan for the event.
In order to get everything done and ready for the big night, the group meets on a weekly basis to work on the project.
Long nights will be in their future as time approaches and every little thing needs to be in place. The group has already started getting their bag ready for the night of the show to prevent forgetting anything needed.
