The newest exhibit in Campanella Gallery speaks with volumes of interesting details that were constructed by artist Matthew Boonstra.
The sculptures that are on display have clean lines and look professional. The two pieces Boonstra put together looks like they were meant to be together and not just thrown there. Making them look clean and crisp helps strengthen the art as a whole and helps the viewer appreciate all the hard work the artist has invested in that particular piece.
Boonstra earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Eastern Michigan University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Michigan State University. Boonstra has been honored by the Arts Council of Greater Lansing, the Detroit Artist Market and the Alden Dow Museum of Science and Art in Midland, Michigan.
Boonstra said “‘Have You Tried Walking?’” captures the transformation of a human figure into a gasoline funnel and signifies “our dizzying physical and psychological relationship with oil.”
Boonstra is a wonderful artist in the way that he can keep a sculpture so simple yet have it say so much. Of his two sculptures on display, as a viewer there are so many things you can take away from them.
Viewers may look at the sculptures and wonder what Boonstra sees where others may look at the sculptures and ask their own questions on how they make them feel.
If you have not taken the chance to go view these items I highly suggest you do, Boonstra’s sculptures are currently on display in the Campanella Gallery until Oct 11.
Take a few minutes out of your day to go to the exhibit and admire the time and effort it took to put into this work.
