Getting started on a project is always the hardest. Planning can be difficult but it can be the most important part of any project process, which is exactly where the Color + Couture team is at right now.
Color + Couture is a fundraising event that supports the Mid-America Chapter of the International Interior Design Association. This event is focused around a fashion show where teams from schools, local design firms and industry professionals participate.
The teams consist of five people, four from the organization and one from their sponsor. The sponsors are different suppliers around the area that work with tile, carpet, fabric and other materials.
The sponsor is responsible for supplying their respective team with the material needed to make their garment. Each garment is made up of 70 percent of the material from the sponsor and 30 percent of whatever else is needed in order to complete the design.
The garment will then be modeled on the runway by one of the team members and the model will have their hair and makeup done by professionals who volunteer to help.
The team has been meeting recently to look over to plan the project with as many ideas as possible.
During the meeting time they look at the material and try to come up with a concept.
“The Park University team has won an award at this event the last two years so we feel a little pressure to do the same,” said Brandi Wooton, team leader.
Last year’s team won Judge’s Pick.
The event is attended by design firms from around the area who could also be competing against the school teams.
“The team wants to really stand out to these people who we hope to someday work for,” Wooton said.
The team hopes to decide on a final concept soon so they will be able to get started on more specific details. Look for an update on these details in the next issue of The Stylus.
