A Park University interior design team will show off its skills on the runway next month when it participates in the Color + Couture event.
Color + Couture is a fundraising event that supports the Mid-America Chapter of the International Interior Design Association. This event is focused around a fashion show where
teams from schools, local design firms and industry professionals participate.
The teams consist of five people, four from the organization and one from their sponsor. The sponsors are different suppliers around the area that work with tile, carpet, fabric and other materials.
The sponsor is responsible for supplying their respective team with the material needed to make
their garment. Each garment is made up of 70 percent of the material from the sponsor and 30 percent of whatever else is needed in order to complete the design.
The garment will then be modeled on the runway by one of the team members and the model will have their hair and makeup done by professionals who volunteer to help.
This year Park University’s team is made up of interior design students
Brandi Wooton, team leader; Pauline Planiveau, team model; Kali Foster, team modeling assistant; and Ross DePriest, team designer.
These four will work side-by- side with Shaw Contract and the main material they will work with is carpet.
“I’m most excited to start networking with local design firms, the people I look up to and hope to one day work with,” said Wooton.
This year’s fashion show will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at Starlight Theatre in Kansas City, Mo.
During this time there will be a cocktail hour and appetizers as well as a meet-and-greet afterwards with the models and teams.
Anyone can attend the show and tickets may be purchased online at iidamidamerica.ticketleap.com/colorcouture2013.
