Super Bowl party planned for Feb. 1
Football fans throughout the country are preparing for the final event of the season – Super Bowl XLIX.
Americans through all 50 states will be gathering at parties and in front of televisions Sunday, Feb. 1, to watch the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks face off in the 49th annual game to see whether the AFC or the NFC has the best team of the season.
Park University’s home campus is going to be holding its own Super Bowl party on the big day in the cafeteria of Thompson Commons.
Staff in Student Life and members of the Park Student Activity Board and the Residence Hall Council are involved with bringing together the day. Plans are still being made for the event but the tentative start time will be two hours before the kickoff at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria where finger foods and snacks will be provided along with drinks.
The dining area will be rearranged to make room for a projector to show the game along with several big screens. They will also add high top tables and couches to the arrangement to add more comfortable seating and a homier atmosphere.
“We’re really looking forward to another fun event for the students,” said Nori Gedei, the student programs specialist of the Student Life department.
In addition to the viewing and snacks, there will be activities and mini-giveaways throughout the event. Whoever guesses the closest to the final score of the winning team will win a prize. There will be other opportunities to win gift cards and Park apparel from raffles and other games as well.
Another aspect to Park’s version of the Super Bowl party will be a provided list of American football rules on the tables.
Because football is an American sport, many international students don’t know the rules but will be able to follow along with the pamphlets.
“It’s fun because it builds a good sense of community and there’s a lot of good food,” said Madi McDaniel, a junior broadcasting major said. “Even people who don’t like football get to hang out with friends and enjoy the party.”
Further details and times about the event will be distributed and posted as flyers and on bulletin boards throughout campus and dorms before Super Bowl Sunday.
