This past Saturday, the Chiefs defeated their opponent, the Houston Texans, in their first NFL postseason divisional playoff game. Historical strides mount as the Chiefs continue to make their way through divisional play.
These strides started in the regular season. The Chiefs are tied for most games won in the regular season. The current record holder is Tom Brady’s 2007 New England Patriots.
Along with regular-season wins, the Chiefs make strides toward the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Giants postseason wins all time. The Chiefs currently have 23, and the Raiders and Giants each have 25. This feat will be accomplished if the Chiefs win the 2025 Super Bowl.
Most consecutive Super Bowl wins is also up for grabs for the Chiefs. The Chiefs are currently still at two straight wins. If the Chiefs add one more, they will surpass the most recent back-to-back winner (other than the Chiefs), Tom Brady’s New England Patriots (2003-2004).
Team historical strides aside, Travis Kelce, the Chiefs tight end continues to race towards Jerry Rice’s records.
Rice, the former 49er, retired in 2006. Kelce could break Rice’s received yards with the Chiefs’ prolonged postseason. Rice’s record is 2,245 yards and 22 playoff touchdowns compared to Kelce’s 2,020 receiving yards and 20 playoff touchdowns.
The tension of these historical strides continues to mount. The Chiefs’ next task is to take on the Buffalo Bills, who defeated the Baltimore Ravens this past Sunday. The second AFC divisional playoff game for the Chiefs is set to happen at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 5:30 p.m. CST.
