The Park Men’s Volleyball team kicked off their season with a home victory against Clarke University at the 2014 Pirate Invitational.
Freshmen Daniel Arteaga led the team to a five-set win with 22 kills and five blocks. Junior Caio Souza backed up Arteaga with 14 kills and four blocks and Junior Paul Bilanzic with 11 kills and nine blocks.
The first set began with Clarke taking control dominating with their serves but Park managed to catch up. Park stole the first set 25-22. Park repeated its success in the second set, only this time with a blowout. Park won 25-10. The tables began to turn in the third set when both teams were neck and neck. But Clarke ended up taking the set 26-24. With the game at 2-1 Park was forced to battle it out for at least one more set in order to claim victory over Clarke.
In the fourth set Park took the lead in the first of several serves but Clarke caught up to steal the lead and take the set 25-21 to tie the score 2-2.
With the score tied Clarke and Park moved into a tiebreaker with a fifth set. It was another gripping close set but Park managed to come up on top 15-13 winning the game 3-2.
