Hollywood award season is here and I am not the least bit ashamed of my habit of obsessing over who’s been nominated, what they are wearing, and my favorite – what fashion train wrecks are hitting the red carpet this year.
For some people the only thing on their minds is football this time of year, which if you ask me I could care less for either of the teams going to the Super Bowl. But for me, award season is my football season. The Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards are the playoffs with the Oscars in March being my Super Bowl.
The Golden Globes are Round 1. This is where we see who has potential, who is coming out strong, who’s in place to be a hopeful for the finals – and who just won’t make the cut. And like football, I have my favorites just like everyone else. Movies and fashion buffs are no different than die hard football fans.
Personally, I want to see Leonardo DiCaprio take home his first Academy Award and the wins he had at the Golden Globes make me really hopeful it will be his year.
Other notable winners and nominees for the Golden Globe Awards, the Critics Choice Awards, and now the Oscars were and are “American Hustle”, “12 Years a Slave”, and “Her”, which as a plot that could be plausible in a few years. If you haven’t seen it or watched the trailer I suggest you do so. These are the big dogs, the films that are wowing fans and celebrities alike. Along with these hard hitting films come the stars.
Matthew McConaughey for “Dallas Buyers Club”, Meryl Streep for “August: Osage County”, and Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams for “American Hustle” are all big names with chances for big awards and even bigger roles next year if they win.
While I could talk about these films and celebrities all day, I am still in gush mode over the SAG Awards that just took place, which in scale with the other three is like watching college football compared to the NFL. It is good just not the pros.
So get ready Park, here comes the actual Super Bowl in a couple weeks and then the all out she-bang for Hollywood in a month.
