The college experience isn’t just about attending class and taking exams.
Park University offers a wide variety of clubs and organizations where students can get involved.
The C.H.E.M. Club (Chemist Have Explosive Minds) meets in the Science Hall 310 every other Friday at noon.
The club is headed by Donna Howell and Greg Claycomb, both assistant professors of Chemistry. Most members are either chemistry or biology majors. However, other majors are welcome to join.
“We do a lot of outreach and chemistry demonstrations,” said Howell.
The club’s demonstrations are usually held throughout the Parkville area. The club also tours chemical facilities like the water treatment center.
The C.H.E.M. Club also attends regional and national meetings and has won a commendable chapter award from the American Chemical Society in the past.
Another science-related club on campus is the Pre-Med Club, which is headed by Brenda Royals, a lecturer of Biology. Meetings are held on alternate Fridays at noon in Science Hall 110.
During these meetings, guest speakers talk to the members about the process of applying to medical school.
Students in Pre-Med Club also participate in activities and experiences that will help them gain acceptance into medical school. Last fall, the club sponsored a Red Cross blood drive on Park’s campus as one of their activities.
For students who are interested in politics, the Political Science Club organizes political-themed events on campus and meets and discusses political issues.
They have sponsored voter registration drives and held a Constitution day event in past years.
This year, the club is organizing the Midwest Political Science Undergraduate Research Conference in April on campus.
“Anyone interested in politics, international issues or law should join,” said James Pasley, professor of Political Science and associate dean.
Pasley, along with Ron Brecke, professor of Political Science, lead the club Meeting times have not been scheduled yet but anyone who is interested in joining Political Science Club can contact Pasley at 816-584-6593 or email [email protected].
Park University also offers opportunities for students to decide what events happen on campus through the Park Student Activities Board. The board is headed by advisors Ben Zibers and Nora Gedei.
In PSAB students can get involved and plan events or just come and hang out because the organization is open to all students.
Zibers, who is also the coordinator for student engagement, said the group helps students with networking and making relationships.
Those are just a few opportunities for Park University students to get involved in.
